Anatomy of Longing exhibition concept with artist Panu Ruotsalo
Exhibition Ikävän anatomia, Anatomy of Longing - Helmi Remes ja Panu Ruotsalo at the Finnish Glass Museum 6.11.-31.12.2020
About the exhibition at The Finnish Glass Museum:
”Anatomy of Longing is the first joint exhibition of glass artist Helmi Remes and visual artist Panu Ruotsalo. Borders are broken when sensitively sculpted glass encounters charred black wood. It is the first time that the Finnish Glass Museum has presented an exhibition with such strong visual contrasts. The sculptures, paintings and glass objects are monochrome, mainly black and white and powerful in their subtlety.
The artists approach and portray art in a similar manner, and both long for northern nature and its ruggedly beautiful elements. In their abstract works, Remes and Ruotsalo investigate the invisible and intangible reality that relates to feelings of longing and melancholia. Piece by piece, they return to portrayals of seashores, the banks of peatland in the fells, mountainsides and silence, at the same time examining the anatomy of emotions on a wider level. What are emotions and what do they evoke in us? What can longing look like?"
The collaboration will continue in the near future.
